Individuals, adults, young adults

Ashley Johnson, M.A.

LPC, Expressive Arts Therapist-in-Training

Words cannot fully describe the warm feeling of gratitude I feel watching a client recognize their growth and reach their goals. If I could capture the sound of this beautiful moment, it would be a soft kind whisper saying, “this is why you do what you do”.

We often feel the pressure to appear we have it all together when we are silently fighting a battle within. To be known and understood can be one of the greatest gifts given to us. I hope to offer this gift to you and remind you this journey you are on no longer has to be walked alone. I have worked in the helping field for over eight years working with adults, young adults, and seniors in clinical outpatient, inpatient, and private practice settings. I have also worked with adolescents in foster care. During that time, I can confidently say counseling revealed itself to be my calling and purpose. I truly value creating space for individuals to find themselves. I know what that walk feels like and how critical it is for healing as well as the journey to self-discovery. I aspire to bring clients from a place of surviving to creating and thriving in a life worth living.

Meet Ashley

When working with clients, my approach is first acknowledging where you are in your healing journey. I prioritize being trauma-informed. I take into account how the impact of difficult life experiences, whether individually or relationally, shape our emotional experiences and ways of perceiving and navigating the world.  As an expressive arts therapist-in-training, I have witnessed and experienced the power of creativity and how it offers a new menu of options for clients to connect with self-expression. Expressive arts and talk therapy interventions are interwoven into the therapy experience allowing clients to fully express their inner world through the means of visual art, music, dance, creative writing, psychodrama, and much more.  Often clients have described my personality and approach as warm, very understanding, caring, relatable, and thought-provoking, with a touch of humor on the side. As trust is built within the therapeutic relationship, vulnerability and safety resides. With collaborative effort, clients will discover the next steps towards healing and growth.

How I work

It has been fun to discover and rediscover past and new loves. I find these activities add color and playfulness to my life. I enjoy long hikes with my dog, taking boxing classes, cooking new recipes, laughing with my friends, writing, singing, and recording music.
